News Crew Article — Raccoons

Jammers sent in tons of amazing articles about raccoons for the latest News Crew assignment. It was hard choosing a winner, but the winning entry was sent in by Fauna Spiritclaw! Read Fauna Spiritclaw’s article below, and check back soon for the next News Crew Assignment!
Around Jamaa, all jammers are enjoying the newest animal, the raccoon! However, you might wonder, “what is there to know about raccoons?” Well, I’ll tell you!
The most common raccoon is the Bandit-masked raccoon. You have probably seen one near your trashcan, hunting for food, because they eat just about anything! They live in forests, prairies, marshes, and cities.
Raccoons mostly get their food by snaring it in the water. They do like aquatic creatures like a crayfish or a frog. On land, they catch food in their hiding places. Their paws are lightning fast, so catching food isn’t hard for them. They also eat fruit and vegetables. They are Omnivores, so they eat almost anything!
A raccoon’s house is usually in a tree hole, a fallen log, or an attic. Young raccoons often spend their first two months of their lives in a high tree hole. As they get older, they move to the ground with their parents.
If you are interested about raccoons and want to learn more, I recommend visiting National Geographic or National Geographic Kids.com for more details about raccoons. And have fun with your raccoons!

Special News...

In 2010-2011, AJHQ had almost an obsession of making everything in Jamaa about geckos. They had newspapers about them:

Plushies, even banners with geckos on them:
These were my first two items. I still have that banner, I never traded it!
Soon we even had codes to give us geckos:

And last but not least, we have the extremely popular gecko song:

So, it's established AJHQ loves geckos, but why? Thanks to Way Back Machine, I can look at the old AJ website, the way it was in 2010. Back then they had a blog, but it wasn't TDE.

I encourage you to read this gecko post here. Then you can explore the rest of the website, too!

It says AJHQ got their love of geckos from an exhibit in the National Geographic Museum! Isn't that cool? I didn't make it after knowing they had geckos in the game!

But wait... AJHQ is in Utah, and the NG Museum in in Washington DC... Now lets remember this was soon after Animal Jam was released in Beta Testing. I bet AJHQ was in Washington DC to make the final agreements for Animal Jam being sponsored by National Geographic! It makes sense, doesn't it?

Thanks for reading! I would love if you could follow this blog by clicking the link in the sidebar, or just leave a comment or two! Jam on!
